Dates are arrival and departure dates. As promised, we are utilizing our national and state parks & lands in most cases – for more scenic locations, but still most with basic amenities. Make your own reservations; pay attention to dates to reserve, as many of these are high-demand locations.
January 8-16 – Quartzsite AZ: Split Rail RV Park (north end of town, Hwy 95) 928-927-5296. $30/night full hookups. Limited space, so book NOW. To free dry camp, we recommend Hi Jolly BLM area, a mile further north. The “Pow Wow” Gem & Mineral Show is 17-20. The big RV Tent show starts on 20 and goes thru 28 (Tyson Wells also), so can stay over for that. We will lead several choice jeep trails and hikes in the area. Come see it with those who’ve been going here for 30 years. (Boy, has it changed!) If interested, you are welcome to join us (Phillips) at Blythe Bluegrass Festival, 17-21. January 26-31 — Borrego Palm Canyon campground, Anza Borrego State Park, CA. $33/night full hookups. Very limited space; book NOW. If willing to dry camp, they offers the best sites with lots of space. Pre-rally in connection with San Diego rally. Amazing geological area! Will pack a month’s worth of introduction exploration into five days.
January 31 – February 6 – Sweetwater Summit Regional Park 3218 Summit Meadow Road, Bonita, CA 91902 (San Diego area). We’re (Phillips) in site #25 in the trees with w/e, but they also have full hookup sites (fill up quickly!) Reserve: 877-565-3600 or sdparks.org. Tour San Diego area with someone who lived there! We’ll walk beaches, drive Mission Bay & have fish & chips bayside, explore amazing Balboa Park & San Diego Zoo, Drive Pt Loma out to Cabrillo National Monument & Natl Cemetery, and more.
March 1-7 – Boulder Beach, Lake Mead Natl Rec Area NV (west of Vegas, near dam). $10/night dry camping in scenic national rec area w/senior pass, no reservations (but nearly always sites available). Or camp at Lake Mead Village adjacent (with hookups. lakemeadrvvillage.com 702-293-2540. $42.94, lake view sites $56.50. Reserve via phone; fill up soon, book NOW! Will day trip to Valley of Fire SP (north of Vegas). Also tour Boulder Dam area. And Red Rocks Canyon Natl Conservation Area west of Vegas; good hiking. Two days on your own to explore Vegas downtown & The Strip.
April 1-5 – Patagonia State Park, AZ. Reserve 877-MYPARKS(697-2757). $30 for electric/water. Rallymaster: Steve & Sandy Varley. “We have reserved Site 76 in the West Campground. The sites on that side are larger, in general, and have better shade. All electric, some pull-thru. Also close to the Visitor Center, showers, store, and marina where boats are available to rent. Nice beach and covered picnic areas. Funky little town of Patagonia with great bakery, fun restaurants, and a wonderful little birding retreat owned and maintained by the Audubon Society. Easy hiking/walking/birding partway around the lake itself, as well as being next door to a beautiful natural hiking area. Gleeson ghost town, over-the-border to Nogales if people want. Wineries and tasting close by.”
May 20-25 (leading up to Memorial weekend) – Angel Fire Luxury RV Resort, Angel Fire, NM. Negotiated great discount of $35! Amazing place with all amenities in spectacular location. We’ll explore region, enjoy local cuisine & the sights in and around this ski resort town.
June 17-22 – Mueller State Park, Divide, CO 719-687-2366, 21045 CO67, 80814. Book 6 mos in advance, so book in Dec! Electric sites go quickly. Or Diamond Campground & RV, Woodland Park, 719-687-9684. Great heart-of-the-Rockies area to explore, many back country roads and miles of hiking trails. Nearby historic Cripple Creek, ghost town Victor, for city life Colorado Springs.
July 18-21 — FMCA Intl Convention, Gillette WY. Might consider caravanning up, with stops in route? Need someone to coordinate?
Post rally July 21-26 – Cheyenne Frontier Days, WY. Rallymasters MJ Brenner, Valdean Severson. Here’s your chance to experience this historic event. Important to book space soon; stay tuned for more details.
Aug 20-26 – Lake Granby, CO — NFS Stillwater Campground (right on lake). Book 6 mos in advance, so in Feb! This is west side of Rocky Mtn Natl Park. Great nature, scenery, boating, hiking, wildlife … and no crowds (compared to the east side). Lots of sites, but only 21 w/ elec so need to book quickly. (Tough to find on internet; go to Arapaho & Roosevelt Natl Forests, and put in Lake Granby, then Stillwater Campground.) Explore Rocky Mountain Natl Park’s “quiet” side; lots of hikes and drives, and amazing views from the campground and all around.
Sept 19-24 — Canyon de Chelly Natl Monument, Chinle, AZ – Cottonwood Campground, run by Navajo Parks & Rec. (Near entrance to monument, closest to Chinle). No reservations, no hookups, but dump station. $14/night. Stay limit is 5 days. Schedule jeep tour down in canyon; view both canyons from drives above. Also visit Hubbell Trading Post historic site.
Oct 8-14 – Bluff, UT – Cadillac Ranch RV Park. 435-672-2262. Rates $27, but discounts available too. 14 full hookup pull-throughs. Daytrips: Valley of the Gods, Goosenecks State Park, Muley Point Overlook, Combs Ridge/Butler Wash, Monument Valley, Natural Bridges Natl Monument. Great time of year; fall colors contrasting with red canyons & bluffs.
Nov 5-12 – Poncho Villa St Park, Columbus, NM (south of Deming). Now considered safe; across the border as well, so we’ll visit “The Pink Store.” Explore surrounding areas, or just kick back and have an “R&R” rally in a peaceful setting.
