TOMBSTONE RALLY REPORT

The rally started off with a welcome dinner provided by the Rally Masters. Welcome to the new members attending their first Quatro Estados rally – Pritchards and Newmans.
On Thursday, (Tombstone) we toured the Boot Hill Graveyard. The brochure gave a brief description of the name of the deceased, date of death, and how each died (if known). That was followed with time for participants to attend the gunfights at OK Corral and other sites, Bird Cage Theatre, shopping, etc. Everyone met for lunch at the historic Longhorn Restaurant.
Friday’s excursion was a trip to Amerind Museum/Gallery and hiking trails. The hikers were treated to spectacular rock formations, wild flowers in bloom, and the company of other CE hikers. Linda was accused of trying to “kill” some of the hikers. A picnic lunch followed. Then some went to the Benson visitor’s center where Gloria, Mike and Bob earned a certificate for operating the train, then on to the ice cream store.
Saturday was the Copper Queen Mine tour in Bisbee. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, not only of the Copper Queen, but mining in general. Folks were free to roam Bisbee, and then we met for lunch at Bisbee’s Table.
Sunday was an open day. An ice cream social was held Sunday evening.
Monday was a visit to the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation area, which includes the restored Fairbank town. Some visited the restored buildings, and others hiked the trail(s). A picnic lunch followed. The afternoon was open for individual activities, and a BBQ cook-out was held that evening at the Newman’s rig.
Tuesday was an open day. Every evening we gathered for a social hour(s). There was lots of laughter, card-playing, etc. The RV park was nice and offered a recreation room where we gathered almost every night.
The “Sneaky Baby” also managed to show up on Tuesday morning!

Rally Masters: Diana McVey & Bob Skaug
We had a great turnout for the Rifle Gap Rally. 20 people attended. First night dinner provided by hosts Diana McVey and Bob Skaug.
Tues. we all drove to Rifle Falls SP. Folks did hiking and explored the many caves. Then we went to the fish Hatchery, a lecture was given very informative. Last we had a nice picnic in the forest.
Wednesday we went into town to the museum, given a lecture of the history of the town and all the things in the museum. Off to lunch at a great pizza place and then over to the Alpaca farm. Several folks had fun feeding the Alpacas and getting spit on, LOL.
Thursday was a free day. A few went kayaking and paddle boarding on the lake. Friday we all drove over to the Redstone Coke Ovens and a nice lunch at the Redstone Inn.
Saturday was another free day and our potluck dinner. We had a great time.

On a pleasant Sunday afternoon, Sixteen rigs bearing thirty Cuatro Estado friends descended on Riverview RV Park. A taco bar was provided by the hosts supplemented with side dishes from the gang. Mrs. Osborn, dressed in period costume, gave us a talk about her exciting and challenging life being the second European woman n the Big Thompson Valley.
Monday morning we had a group photo at the Loveland Love Lock Sculpture with Lake Loveland in the background. After a stroll thru the CSU Annual Flower Garden, Pat lead us thru the CSU Campus and on to Severance for lunch at iconic Bruce’s Bar & Grill. They knew we were coming so had plenty of help to serve up Rocky Mountain Oysters to those brave enough to try them. A short drive took us thru Eaton, home of the Romansiks , and on to the Colorado Model Railroad museum where private tours had been arranged for us. Back at our pavilion, we held our annual meeting.
Tuesday with timed entry and National Parks passes in hand, eleven cars entered Rocky Mountain National Park. Art Dorsey, our trip guide gave us informative radio talks along the way as well as at the scenic stops we made along Trail Ridge Road. We all made it safely over the continental divide for a picnic lunch in a rented pavilion in historic Grand Lake. Bob Scott located Bob Scott”s Authentic Indian Jewelry, where of course he purchased a piece for Sharee.
Wednesday was a free day until we met at the Loveland Sweetheart Elks Lodge for an evening of Trivia. Cuatro Estados had six teams with one team winning a first place prize and another team the last place prize.
Early Thursday a lot of us drove to Cheyenne to take in the Frontier Day Parade. Pat had put together logistical maps for us and as worried as we were, everything worked out great. The parade was amazing, Frontier Park was bustling and the Rodeo was exciting. There were lots of vendors to choose lunch from, but no one purchased a turkey leg though.
Friday morning we met at the pavilion for a presentation by Northern Colorado Water about the rivers, dams, tunnels and canals so vitally important to this area. Then we took a leisurely, scenic drive to visit several of the dams we learned about. Friday evening, Mrs. F.O. Stanley gave us a very interesting history of she and Mr. Stanley’s journey from Main to Colorado for his health. We learned about his geometry and photographic inventions (which he sold to George Eastman) as well as the Stanley Steamer. She gave us a history of the Stanley Hotel as we would be visiting Estes Park the next day.
Saturday was an easy drive to Viestenz-Smith park along the Big Thompson, then thru Glen Haven and into Estes Park over Devil’s Gulch Road. We all found parking at the visitor center then broke up to ride the shuttles and find a place for lunch.
It was a busy, activity packed week, and we hope there was something for everyone. Thank you to all who joined and participated with us. It was an honor.
